Les fanzines historiques sont RAOTL et TLW (Through The Wind and the Rain de S. Kelly ayant cessé de paraître depuis quelques années).

 

Well Red était un compromis entre le magazine et un fanzine. Il a également cessé de paraître depuis la fin d'année dernière.

 

Anfield Roar est un webzine qui a l'avantage d'être gratuit tandis que We are Liverpool est le petit nouveau avec un rédacteur issu de TLW (qui continue d'ailleurs à écrire pour les deux fanzines   ).

 

Bref, je conseillerais plutôt en TLW en format numérique (pour éviter les coûts prohibitifs d'acheminement) avec Anfield Roar en consultation gratuite.

Just to inform everyone that ISSUE 207 of RED ALL OVER THE LAND is out Saturday November 29 and will be on sale outside Anfield at the games against Stoke, Sunderland and probably Basel and also at the away game with Leicester. Se cover attached.

Not the headline, KICK OUT THE HALF 'N HALF. Against Chelsea Anfield was awash with half 'n half scarves. Why would any self respecting Liverpool fan want to wear a scarf with Chelsea on it? Join the campaign, let us know your views.

. Une interview de Rafa à l’occasion du dixième anniversaire de la qualification contre Olympiakos, où l’on apprend que l’entraîneur espagnol disposait de deux porte-bonheurs : un stylo Montblanc et un caleçon représentant un diable de Tasmanie…

 

. Un autre article sur le miracle d’Olympiakos rappelle qu’il a failli ne pas avoir lieu, Stevie G ayant été proche d’écoper d’un rouge…

 

. Un débat, dans l’ère du temps, portant sur le « sur-régime » de Liverpool l’année dernière avec un certain nombre de joueurs (Henderson, Coutinho ou Sturridge) connaissant un pic de forme…

 

. Un autre article sobrement intitulé « Retour à la médioctrité » illustré par une photo de Joe Cole et Jovanovic…

 

. Un article sur Emre Can.

 

. Pas mal de souvenirs de vieux kopites racontant leur rencontre avec Shankly (qui accueillait encore chez lui, quelques semaines avant sa mort, les gamins qui souhaitaient le voir) ou Dalglish. Un autre article revient sur les fameuses citations du Shanks.  

 

. Un article sur Fabio Borini : Une nouvelle chance ou un autre flop ?

 

. Un article cherche à savoir ce qui a changé entre la saison 2013/14 et 2014/15 (El pistolero n’avait marqué que 7 des 38 buts lors de la série héroïque des 11 victoires)

 

. Un article intéressant sur la notion de supporters, bien différents du fan passif : Quand vous êtes supporter, vous faites partie du jeu et vous pouvez faire une différence. L'auteur compare d'ailleurs l’équipe à un petit frère qu’il ne faudrait pas trop critiquer…

 

. Clotûre du numéro avec différents articles sur notre défense, qui, malgré de nombreux investissements, a concédé en 2013/14 plus de buts (1,32) par match dans une saison de PL…Et cela s’aggrave actuellement (1,36). Les torts sont partagés entre un gardien, qui ne commande rien, et des défenseurs centraux et latéraux, qui ne se couvrent pas…

ZINE SCENE

The Manchester United Fanzine ‘RED ISSUE’ has decided to call it a day after 26-years and 295 Issues.  They’re not citing declining sales but simply, because it 

‘can’t stand the stench’

 of football any longer.  In their final issue that went on sale outside Old Trafford at the game against Southampton they said: 

“The game we’ve been clinging onto is gone.  Football now is happy-clappy families, half-and-half scarves, tourists and selfie sticks; there’s no point trying to fight that.”

‘RED ISSUE’ didn’t give Liverpool, Liverpool players or Liverpool supporters an easy time; just the opposite but even so, ‘RED ISSUE’ stood against the tidal wave of modernism in football especially amongst their own.  They didn’t care who they upset and a lot of the time they said what many of us were thinking when it came to modern football.  I never really took offence at what they said or did because they said what they wanted to say.  They were a Fanzine.

If we’ve had anything in common it’s the contempt we feel for the modern game but whereas they apparently still sold enough copies to make the effort of producing a Fanzine a viable venture I’m afraid that’s not really the case for Liverpool Fanzines.  I can’t speak for Dave from 

‘The Liverpool Way’

 nor Neil from 

‘We Are Liverpool’

 but I’m sure they’d agree that this season has been more toil than pleasure and not just because of the lousy weather we’ve often encountered.  A couple of seasons ago this Fanzine encountered a lot of problems that were beyond anybody’s such as flooding and damage to a PC causing data to be lost and problems aplenty.  However, we still got the Fanzine out and because sales were pretty good we stayed afloat.  This season we’re sinking fast.

I’ve received well meaning comments about the clubs poor form this time around affecting sales; well that’s not necessarily the case.  During Rafa’s final season and the few months of Hodgson’s reign sales weren’t too bad at all and after Kenny came home they picked up further.  In fact during times of trouble [if you like] supporters would take a Fanzine to read the real thoughts rather than the ones that were in the official publications and although the local press would voice critical opinions they had to draw the line at some of what they printed.  Fanzines didn’t have that problem. 

Over the last season or two we’ve seen growing numbers of overseas visitors to Anfield and I’ve nothing against them but they’re not going to buy something that’s obviously unofficial and printed in English.  Add to this the huge number of others that now arrive and who definitely fit into the ‘

happy-clappy families, half-and-half scarves, tourists and selfie sticks’

 group.  They are happy to pay an extortionate amount of money for their ticket and all the trashy tack that gets sold in the club shop, pay well over the odds for food and drink inside the ground but don’t give Fanzines a second glance.  To them football is the circus.  They are what the clubs want and win, lose or draw they go home happy with their bag of goodies and selfie pics.  They feel that being part of the famous Anfield atmosphere is to stand up and shout, 

“Who R Ya”

 at the noisier away support. 

We've tried hard to work with the club but the club rarely, if ever, now respond to an email, that in itself is disappointing.

I’d ask you all to rally round and help spread the word about Fanzines but is there any real point; you are the converted or whatever.  Since August this Fanzine has lost between 25 and 30 subscribers.  Match day sales on the first day of sale have dropped by around a third.  The time spent putting it together is hardly worth the effort if I’m honest but I actually love doing a Fanzine.  We’ve never had a huge audience if that’s the right way of putting it and even in what I’d call our better era we’d sell only to around 3% of the Anfield crowd.  However, that was good enough.  Now it’s less than .5% so it’s hard to justify carrying on.  I can join the exodus of the old time supporters and maybe go to a non-league game or stay at home and watch telly.  Or I can trundle on hoping that there’s a light somewhere in the tunnel.

We've tried special offers, special deals competitions and everything.   At a loss now as to what to do next.   

Its toss a coin time.  My first thought on hearing Red Issue had thrown in the towel was to think, well if they can’t beat the apathy how the hell can we?  The next few weeks will determine that.

Hi There

 

I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who got in touch regarding RED ALL OVER THE LAND following the email about the precarious state of Fanzines, certainly around Liverpool FC. 

It’s rewarding to know that so many still support Fanzines and the part they play in the game today and all that I can ask is that you keep spreading the word via whatever means you can be it, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and whatever other means of communications are now out there. 

I will be carefully looking at all the options open to us and taking on board ALL the comments and suggestions that came this way.

In the meantime ISSUE 209 will be on sale against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday and also against West Ham the following weekend.

You may have seen a few bits and bobs around the past week about how fanzines are struggling these days. This is certainly true. The Liverpool Way is ceasing in four issues time and Red All Over the Land is toying with finishing up in November. Presently, I have no plans to wind up We Are Liverpool.

 

All we ask is that if you like the mag please let people know that it exists, either verbally, by forwarding this email on or via social media such as Twitter/Facebook etc.

The Liverpool Way n°96 « Boston, we have a problem » en couverture

. Edito de Dave Usher évidemment assez pessimiste : Nous n’avons pas fait une Spurs mais pire… Plusieurs raisons sont identifiées : la blessure de Sturridge mais surtout l’incapacité du manager à acheter les bons joueurs…

. Dave revient d’ailleurs, dans un article, sur tous les motifs de frustration dans le football moderne : le prix des billets, des maillots, les transferts et la rémunération des agents…

. Dans un autre article, il critique vertement le pari calculé qu’a été Mario Balotelli, qui présente un déficit criant de mouvement et que Rodgers n’avait apparemment pas voulu. Le recrutement de Rémy lui aurait semblé plus logique.

. Dans le Diary, on apprend que Purslow travaille désormais à Chelsea et que nous pourrions « rendre » Super-Mario à son agent à la fin de l’année sans préjudice financier…

. Un article, suite aux déboires de Mignolet, est consacré aux nombreux gardiens (remplaçants) passés par les bords de Mersey depuis une quinzaine d’années : Seul Brad Friedel émerge de ce désastre…

. Un passionnant article sur la gouvernance de LFC montrant que le déclin de Liverpool a coincidé avec le départ du président John Smith et du secrétaire Peter Robinson, remplacés par le (catastrophique) duo Moores/Parry. Liverpool était à l’époque à la pointe de l’innovation (politique de transferts, 1er club à disposer d’un sponsor maillot). Paul Natton conclut sur la nécessité de retrouver un directeur sportif à la David Dein ou Hoeness, qui permettrait à Ian Ayre de se consacrer à la dimension commerciale des activités du club.

. Un article dénonçant les conséquences sur notre politique de recrutement de l’application des principes du Moneyball (achat de jeunes joueurs prometteurs, exclusion des cadres trop payés comme Reina ou Agger, choix des transferts dans un comité). La comparaison avec la politique de Chelsea n’est pas en notre faveur…

. Le débat porte sur la capacité de Rodgers à rebondir : Un sursis lui est encore accordé par une majorité des contributeurs…

. Plusieurs articles consacrés au départ de StevieG, dont un analysant le passage de relais entre grands joueurs (de Keegan à Dalglish ou de Rush à Aldridge), progressivement grippé (de Suarez à Lambert/Balo...).

 

. Un bilan des recrues d'été avec Lovren, Balo et Lambert identifiés (sans grande surprise) comme des flops....

 

. Deux articles consacrés au manager : un sur l'évolution de sa philosophie de jeu et les changements tactiques effectués depuis quelques semaines tandis qu'un débat oppose les pro-Rodgers (capacité à faire progresser les jeunes) à ses opposants (un contributeur rédige sa lettre de licenciement même s'il lui reconnaît le mérite d'avoir fait, à nouveau, croire les supporters).

. Un débat sur Suso, espoir jamais confirmé à Liverpool ?

 

. Un article sur la marque Liverpool au regard de la progression du soccer aux states

 

. Un article de synthèse sur le mercato d'hiver avec les joueurs libres (Pelligrino, Maxi), les bonnes affaires (Arbeloa) ou les achats à rembourser (Morientes, Kromkamp...). On y apprend que Paletta, défenseur désormais à Parme, aurait une clause libératoire de 30 M£  

 

. Un article sur Emile Heskey, "injouable" (malheureusement par intermittence...)

 

. Un article optimiste sur la seconde partie de saison avec la montée en puissance des recrues de l'été et les capacités à rebondir de Rodgers...

The Liverpool Way n°97 Henderson-Gerrard en couverture

 

Edito plus optimiste de Dave qui salue le changement tactique de B. Rodgers avec son 3-4-2-1 qui a donné sa chance à E. Can et L. Markovic. Le niveau de jeu pratiqué ces dernières semaines se rapproche de l’année dernière selon lui…

 

Un article appelle à la patience pour les jeunes joueurs surtout lorsqu’ils sont étrangers. Espérons donc que cette patience soit récompensée…Un autre article « the kids are alright » procède à un tour d’horizon des jeunes formés à l’académie ou recrutés à l’étranger d’Houllier à Rodgers.

 

Une revue d’effectifs à mi-saison avec quelques interrogations sur la qualité du coaching des gardiens, le positionnement de Can en défense/milieu et le temps de jeu à accorder à Stevie G. La contribution de Lucas est également soulignée.

 

A l’occasion du match contre West Ham, un article historique revient sur la saison 1985/86 où les hammers luttaient pour le titre avec les deux clubs de Liverpool…

RAOTL n°210 Couverture Modern Football The Kop has it’s say

 

Plusieurs articles sur la marchandisation du foot et la baisse d’audience des fanzines, suite notamment au « coup de gueule » de JJP :

 

L’un conclut funestement « Les fanzines sont en train de mourir aujourd’hui mais demain ce seront les clubs qui vont sûrement disparaître… »

 

L’autre dénonce le consumérisme (boutique du club à côté de la statue de Shankly), le prix des billets (4^ème abonnement annuel le plus cher à 710 £ après Chelsea, Tottenham et Arsenal à 1014 £…) et la mainmise des diffuseurs TV (qui ont, par exemple, fait décaler la date d’un MU-Liverpool pour permettre le retour de Cantona de suspension et qui a marqué  ).

 

Un article revient sur le comité des transferts avec évidemment ses deux plus gros échecs (pour cette année sportive) Lovren et Balo…

 

Un article sur la difficulté de remplacer StevieG où on apprend, par ailleurs, que son testimonial à remporter au légendaire Billy Liddell 6000 £ en 1960...

 

Une série d’articles de Steve Horton sur les joueurs qui n’étaient plus voulus à Anfield (Gary Ablett, Paul Ince ou Robbie Fowler, prévenu de son infortune par une erreur de numéro de Gary Mac qui pensait avoir Robbie Keane au téléphone pour lui proposer de prendre la suite à la demande de Gégé…)

 

Un article sur les périodes de mercato qui rappelle que pendant longtemps les dates d’arrivées des joueurs étaient totalement libres dans la saison (Emlyn Hugues en février 1967, Bruce Groobelar en mars 1981 et Steve Nicol en octobre de la même année).

 

Le 9^ème rencontre avec les supporters du Borussia M’Gladbach se tiendra du 22 au 25 mai.

 

Enfin, un article historique sur Dave Hickson, attaquant de la fin des années 1950 qui a joué pour les trois clubs de Liverpool : 38 buts en 67 matchs pour les Reds !!!

Quelques conseils de sortie culturelle de la part de RAOTL :

 

The greatest night of your life?  Wednesday May 25^th 2005 might be the answer you’d get from more than a few Reds.  Even ten years on the goose pimples can still come up at the very mention of ISTANBUL.

That night in Istanbul gave rise to so many different ways of commemorating a day in the history of Liverpool Football Club, books were written, magazines printed, and TV documentaries from both Merseyside and Milan showing the different reactions, there are films and stage shows.  As they say, football, like life, can prepare you for many things but nothing could surely prepare us for what happened that night in Istanbul.

There were the fantastic scenes around Taxim Square BEFORE the game where Liverpool supporters won the hearts of the local population and the restaurant and bar owners.  Even the fans of the Istanbul clubs, whose rivalries can make Liverpool/Everton seem a vicarage tea party came together as one just so they could join in the fun.  There was the journey to the Ataturk, built in the middle of nowhere and those coach rides took anywhere between one and four hours as the local population spilled out of their communities just to say hello and maybe sell you something from chocolate to beer.

Then, of course there was the game.  Up to 40,000 Liverpool fans united in despair then unbridled joy.

Only what if you were sat next to a Milanese man, how would you have felt during that first forty-five minutes?  And how would he have felt when it was all over.  What if that man was a VIP, not your normal everyday VIP but Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy and the President of the other team involved that night, AC Milan?

Actually I’m sure the majority of you are aware of this incredible story?  Well here’s some good news.

May 1^st 1965 was a day many Liverpool supporters thought they might never live to see.  It was the day when Evertonians had to stop bragging about being the only club from Liverpool to have won the FA Cup.  On May 1^st 1965 the hoodoo was laid to rest.  Many of the Liverpool supporters who witnessed this historic occasion might have never been to the Empire Stadium, Wembley before.  In fact many of them might not have even been down the M1 because this was 1965 motorways were still pretty new.

Liverpool was the place to be from and Liverpool FC [and Everton FC] reminded the rest of the nation that the city wasn’t just about pop music, football mattered as well.

Liverpool under Mister Shankly had won the league the previous season but Liverpool had won the league before, the FA Cup was the Holy Grail.  It was a competition that had a strange effect on grown men who for some strange reason would dress up in outrageous clothing and totally change their character.  Losing an FA Cup game hurt and hurt for weeks afterwards, losing a Cup Final, as Liverpudlians of the 1950 era would tell you, hurt the worst and the longest; it would last all summer.  Winning the Cup, however, meant the summer months would be full of sunshine regardless of what the weatherman said.

I was lucky, I was inside Wembley stadium on that day 50-years ago.  The day when Liverpool FC filled in the blank page in their history book.  The day when Wembley was awash with not only the rain but with songs from the terraces.  Liverpool’s allocation had only been 15,000 but it sounded like 50,000 when the lap of honour was in progress.  No team had ever completed the traditional lap of honour to such a sound.  “Ee-Aye-Addio we’ve won the Cup”, the recently adopted “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “When the Saints” and “We’ll be running round Wembley with the Cup” – plus chanting and other little ditties like “Here We Go Gathering Cups in May” and “We’ve been to see the Queen” -–who I believe wore red?

The following day, the numbers that lined the streets of Liverpool totalled a quarter of a million upwards and not even The Beatles got that sort of reception!  That was the importance of the FA Cup half a century ago.

 

Now there’s the chance to relive one of the greatest days in Liverpool’s history.  We have John Keith presenting ‘When Shankly’s Dream Came True’ at the EPSTEIN THEATRE, Hanover Street on Friday May 15^th along with some of the participants of that day; Ian St. John, Ian Callaghan and Chris Lawler.

Dans son édito, Dave Usher, même s’il n’apprécie pas toutes les facettes de sa personnalité, dresse les louanges de Brendan Rodgers, qui a réussi à rétablir une situation compromise en début de saison. Ainsi si ses qualités de recruteur font débat, c’est un génie pour adapter son système tactique aux joueurs à sa disposition.

Un autre sujet de préoccupation est le renouvellement des contrats de Sterling ou d’Henderson.

Dans le diary, l’humour des tweets de Titi Camara est souligné tandis qu’on apprend que le fils de Salif Diao a rejoint l’academy…

Un article expose le chantier principal du mercato d’été avec le recrutement d’un bon buteur : Lacazette, Dybala ou Vietto sont les cibles privilégiées tandis que Ings serait une utile doublure.

Des articles qu’on a déjà l’impression d’avoir lu : la nécessité de gagner des trophées plutôt que de finir 4^ème, les dérives du foot moderne (prix des places, des maillots, droits TV, émergence des consommateurs plutôt que des supporters…).

Un article appelant à créer une chanson pour Raheem Sterling, qui n’en a toujours pas au contraire d’Eeeeegor Biscan…

Un article essaie de dresser le parallèle avec le déclin de Liverpool et la situation actuelle de ManU (équipe vieillissante, mauvais choix de recrutement…).

Un autre article revient sur le choix du capitaine pour la saison prochaine. Hendo est évidemment en pôle dans l’attente du prolongement de son contrat mais Can, Sakho, Lucas, Skrtel voire Lallana présentent également des profils intéressants.

Un article historique sur la fin de la saison 1974 qui voit MU et Everton lutter pour ne pas descendre, ce qui sera pourtant le cas pour les Mancuniens…  

Le débat porte sur Sterling et de savoir si le club doit lui payer ce qu’il demande, soit plus de 100.000 £ par semaine avec des bonus…Une majorité de contributeurs pense qu’il faut s’aligner sur les demandes du jeune ailier sous peine de le voir partir ailleurs (Luke Shaw émergerait à 200K£ par semaine à MU, Bobby Zamora à 90K£). L’exemple de Pogba parti de MU pour devenir un joueur de classe internationale à la Juve est aussi rappelé.

Cela a l'air d'aller mieux pour RAOTL 

 

Firstly I’d like thank all those who have re-subscribed for next season, after the previous lows in Fanzine Land things have slowly started to pick up.  Match Day sales are still down by a about a third on last season but the number of subscribers has increased since the turn of the year.  We still need more, certainly more Match Day sales, but in fairness some of the elements on Match Day haven’t helped and those dark winter nights certainly didn’t help.  We’ve started to cut our cloth accordingly and trimmed a few of the costs.  Almost sounds like a real business doesn’t it? 

We have two more issues out this season; the first one will be out when we play Newcastle on Monday April 13^th and a big thanks to Jamie Carragher’s mates at Sky for that one.  Not blaming Jamie of course but maybe he could give us a mention in the weeklong build up that usually goes with a Sky game. 

By then we’ll know if we’re at Wembley or not; talk about a drawn out game, they settled those old fashioned ‘endless replays’ quicker back in the days before a penalty shoot-out had been invented.  Should we be involved in a semi final tie it’s unlikely we’ll be able to sell at Wembley but we’ll see?  If we don’t make Wembley we’ll be selling at Hull and West Brom. 

The final issue of the season is due out against QPR and should still be on sale for the ticket touts dream game [hello Thomas Cook] when Stevie Gerrard makes his farewell show against Crystal Palace, injuries and suspensions permitting and providing he’s picked of course. 

Regarding next season we’re going to reduce the number of issues we bring out from 13 a season to 10.  Hopefully though, we’ll be able to stay as up to date as possible.  Bringing out fewer issues could make the Fanzine better; it will mean less work in one way for me but also allow more time for checking for those little errors that sometimes sneak into the magazine.  The price on Match day will remain the same but I’ll be looking at ways of making it less costly for those who do subscribe.

We have also gained a few more contributors in recent weeks and that has made life easier but we always need more.  It adds to the variety and as somebody once said, “Variety is the spice of life”.  We could also use more sellers; we have too many empty bases around the fields of Anfield Road, especially now the building works are in full flow.  Come along and slightly subsidise the expensive day out or, if you don’t go in, come along and get yourself a few beer tokens.  If you travel to the games by coach, try and sell a few on board or if you come by plane, boat or train I’m sure there must be an outlet somewhere? 

The deadline for copy for Issue 212 is Sunday April 5; I will be working Easter Sunday.
